Simple Birthday Cakes Real Moms Can Make

Quick Birthday Cake 5yrs old

Birthday cakes are one of those things that are oh so important to your child. Unless you’ve made a hobby out of learning how to decorate all those fancy cakes with the piped icing and fondant, you’re probably left wondering what kind of cake to make each time a birthday rolls around! Now,don’t get me wrong,  a flat cake with icing and sprinkles can be just fine, but with just a little extra effort you can make something truly memorable!  And it’s such a great feeling to surprise your child with something that makes his eyes pop!

The main point of this birthday cake is the paper cut-outs on skewers, these are what take the cake to another level altogether. And the fact that they are giant makes the wow factor even greater.

You’ll Need:

  • One chocolate bundt cake with white icing and sprinkles in a white and blue mixture
  • Crepe Paper to match the color of the sprinkles
  • Colored Paper
  • Thick black felt pen
  • Metallic silver round sticker
  • Smaller round stickers in same color as paper
  • Wooden skewers
  • An ink stamp that is the age of the child (optional)
A square plate looks great with a round cake!

How To:
I think the photo is self explanatory, but here’s a quick how-to for those who need it:

  1. Draw shapes on colored paper with a pencil. Some ideas: the child’s age, a crown, a star, a balloon, a present, a flower, etc.
  2. With  a thick black felt pen outline the shape, and add simple details.
  3. Apply metallic stickers and/or small colored sticker where ever it makes sense, and layer a smaller colored sticker on top of each metallic sticker
  4. Stick the skewers through the shapes inserting at a bottom point from the front, and coming out at a top point
  5. Use two stickers sandwiched over point of skewer for safety and a nice finish
  6. Stick your creations into the cake and smile!!
