Make Unique Room Signs From Modeling Clay!

Modeling Clay Signs

Since we’re on the topic of signs, I though I’d share this project with you as well! A few months ago just after I had posted the project showing how to make pictures with modeling clay, here, I was thinking how fun it might be to make signs from modeling clay. Just an hour or so later after that thought crossed my mind, my daughter arrived home from school with none other than signs made from modeling clay! I honestly was in shock, but happy to know that I’m somehow in sync with what is going on in my daughter’s life.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, these signs are written in Hebrew script lettering. the top one says “mamad room”, which in our house is the toy room, and the second sign says “children’s room.” Isn’t that sweet?

You’ll Need:

  • modeling clay (plastalena)
  • white glue or modge podge
  • thick cardboard or even pieces of wood

How To:

  • Make shapes from modeling clay and affix to surface with white glue or modge podge
  • Cover entire surface with clay shapes or thin snake-like strips.
  • Form letters from snake-like strips and affix with white glue or modge podge.
  • Using a paint brush cover entire surface with at least one coat of white glue or modge podge.
  • Set aside to dry for 24 hours.
  • Frame your creations in simple frames from the dollar store (plan ahead and cut cardboard base to fit frame), or hang with a decorative ribbon.

    Hi there,
Ive only now come across your site and am so happy to have found it! you have some gorgeous ideas.
I live in Israel with my husband and 2 (nearly 3) boys. I can see that you are obviously ‘connected’ to this country in some way… but do you actually live here too. If so, can you tell me where you would buy things like mod podge and the likes from?? I LOVE being creative, but i often feel limited here because of lack of materials. So i often get craft supplies sent from my home country (new zealand). But it would be GREAT to know we could get it all here.
    Thanks again… Amy

Hi Amy,So very glad you found me! I do live in Israel, and actually most basic art supplies are available though pricey.
Stick with me and youll never feel limited, everything I make (almost) is from basic supplies. I have seen the basic modge podge in several stores, (where do you live?) even the comparatively tiny one that I shop in. In any case decoupage medium (like modge podge)
is definately marketed by an Israeli label.
I love New Zealand, I lived there in Wellington with my parents for one year in the 9th grade (form 5-6)!
Please tell your friends and family in New Zealand about the blog
and the blog party on Sunday. Keep in touch and all the best!
