Slice Of Life: Painted Mailboxes

Painted Mailbox

A walk around the neighborhood recently got me noticing some cute crafty mailboxes! The painterly bird on the far right has been catching me eye for years, and I’m so glad I finally was able to photograph it! A friend of mine painted the sweet floral on her mailbox, and the red and aqua version is cute and simple!

What do the mailboxes look like in your neighborhood? Do your children know what a mailbox is for? Or even about the almost lost “art” of sending letters? Or the beauty of stamps? Who would have thought?

These painted mailboxes remind me of being in New England for a few years. Up in New Hampshire a lot of people had slates hanging on their doors with some form of Welcome painted on them. They were a fun custom for that area of the country!

These a personal mailboxes, right? In England we don’t tend to have them: most people’s mail is posted straight through the letter box in the front door. The ones you’ve posted though are so sweet 🙂
I recently set up a “pen pal” for my niece and we’ve been sending mail back and forth between the UK and US… it’s so funny how excited her pen pal and family get when they receive it and see the different stamps we use: it makes writing by hand so much more exciting somehow when the recipient gets joy just out of seeing the mail, let alone opening it!
