More Yarn Pictures For Rosh HaShana: Tashlich!

Yarn Pictures For Rosh HaShanah -Tashlich

Rosh HaShana is just around the corner (Wednesday night) and right now you might be looking for a craft activity to keep the kids busy while you prepare for the holiday? If not, well this is a nice project to do anytime. My daughter and a friend (who drew the fish and the little girl) chose to make yarn pictures depicting tashlich, a Rosh HaShana prayer usually said on the first day of Rosh HaShana next to a body of water in fish can live.

Going for a leisurely walk toward a body of water or a view of one on the holiday is a beautiful and enjoyable tradition. The words for this prayer can be found in any Rosh Hashana prayer book. If you won’t be near any bodies of water on Rosh HaShana, as I will not, so you can still do tashlich up until Hoshana Raba (the last day of Succot) at a time when getting to a place with a gorgeous view of the Kinneret (in my case) is do-able.

Oh, and about the craft project, you’ll need some cardboard from cereal boxes, white glue, yarn, and even some sequins would be nice. All the best!

This is lovely. I found you when I was searching for a way to do Tashlich as I am not near water.

I’m really enjoying your blog, which I just recently discovered. You’ve got some really great ideas, and new twists on familiar things (I taught arts and crafts for many years).
Just have to point out that tashlich is customarily said on first day Rosh Hashana, except when the first day is Shabbat, when tashlich is pushed off ’til the second day. And I think it can be said until Hoshana Raba.

I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to you for your creative, inspired blog. Last year I started teaching the Aleph Hebrew class in my (very small!) reform synagogue in Vermont for kids aged 5-7. I didn’t know if I’d be able to find fun projects. I’ve gotten so many great ideas from your blog! I owe you a big thanks! Toda raba! 🙂

I did this yarn project (not for a particular holiday) with my after school group, so much fun. The kids have already asked to do it again. Thanks for the idea.
