Having A Hanukkah Party? Make A Mini-Dreidel Bunting!

Hanukkah Cake Mini Dreidel Bunting

Make your Hanukkah gathering super cute with this Hanukkah mini-dreidel bunting! Generally used on a cake, mini buntings are popping up all over the place, so I really don’t know who was the originator of this adorable idea…..I made this one today to adorn my husband’s birthday cake, my first mini-bunting, and I’m sold! I’ve been using decorated skewers for cake decorating for years now, but this adds a whole new sculptural dimension that you can’t beat.

And in case you’re wondering why I’ve cropped the cake out of this photo, well I”ll be honest, the chocolate cake was delicious, (they didn’t even notice the whole wheat instead of white trick, shhhhhh) but crafting, not cake decorating is my speciality….and to add insult to injury, my husband brought home non dairy creamer instead of non dairy whipped cream, so I had to make a chocolate glaze, delicious but not exactly photogenic…..in any case I’m sure it gives you comfort to know that my cakes don’t look perfect! It’s okay I understand, really.

You’ll Need:

  • wooden skewers
  • small colored flags and dreidels (I used the dreidels from my Nesting Dreidels Mobile crafting kit, available here)
  • embroidery thread or crocheting thread and a needle
  • double stick tape or glue

How To:

  1. Play with your shapes on a flat surface, and rearrange and re-size them etc. until you come up with a design that you like.
  2. Using needle and thread string the paper flags and dreidels together.
  3. Secure at each end to skewer, and add flags to skewer tops by folding a strip of paper around the skewer, securing with double stick tape, and cutting the notch.
  4. Ta da! Use your mini bunting to decorate a cake, a fruit platter, a plate of doughnuts, or even stick it into a pot of succulents!
