Classic Paper Chain Succah Decorations

Succah Decorations paper chains 2

The lovely seven day (8 days outside of Israel) festival of Succos starts Wednesday night, so we are in the thick of all the holiday preparations! Of course I do hope to have time to make some new Succah decorations and finish those that I’ve started, but today I’m baking and cooking to fill the freezer, while thinking about tackling the pile of laundry that needs folding and ironing. We live in a community where everyone builds a Succah, so there is the lovely sound of hammers working, usually keeping me company late into the night these few days before the holiday!

My kids kept busy this morning with a classic succah decoration, the paper chain. And I think they look especially great right now in pastels and neon brights. We are fortunate to have the space to build two Succahs, one for sleeping and one for eating that holds our long dining room table. The sleeping Succah is the kid’s territory decor wise, where these paper chains will look lovely, and I hope to encourage them to keep busy making things for the next few days.

As for my decorations, well, I’ve got a stack gold cardboard fig leaves, and lots of plastic bottles to work with. I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks so much Linda! Of course everything we celebrate in Israel is celebrated by Jews around the world too in almost the same way, though theres nothing like celebrating Succot in Israel!
