Crocheted Rag Rug From Sheets Completed!

Crocheted Rag Rug With sheets Blues and oranges

It is with great joy that I can finally share with you the great news that my latest crocheted rag rug from sheets has been completed. Yippee! Crocheting rugs from sheets pillowcases and the like is really so very satisfying— so much so that I can’t wait to start the next rug!  This rug is for my boy’s room and I love the fact that it looks like something from space or sea….an mix between a fiery sun and and the deep blue ocean?

The rug measures about 135 cm across, which is 56.25 inches, which is 4.7 feet, now it’s starting to sound like not such a small rug! Actually it happens to be a perfect size for a medium sized or even small bedroom, next to a single bed, or between two beds……..two rugs down, two to go!

Details:

  1. Hook size: 10mm
  2. Stitch: single crochet
  3. materials: sheets, comforter covers, pillow cases, you need  a ton of them. this rug was made approximately with the following:
  • 5 small fitted twin sheets, acrylic
  • 1 cotton twin sized comforter cover
  • 1 cotton twin sized flat sheet
  • 1 cotton full sized flat sheet
  • 3 standard pillowcases

So gather your sheets, make yarn as described in my previous posts (I’ll provide the links soon, gotta run, life is calling. If you can’t wait, search crochet rag rug in my search bar.) and start crocheting. I’m here for any questions! And one last thing, when I placed the completed rug in my boy’s room, my eight year old curled up on the rug, a true sign that he appreciated mommy’s efforts, which makes all the work worth it!

Note: Though I have photographed my rug outside, I do not recommend using it anywhere where it will be exposed to sun light, as all of your precious work will fade and weaken, which would be sad indeed! Of course these rugs are machine washable, which makes them so very practical! Enjoy.

Thanks so much! This isnt the type of project one can really plan since it really depends on what sheets you have!

Thanks Sara, yes, it is hard work crocheting with sheets if you want to get a nice sturdy rug, but well worth the effort!

Thanks Maggy, go for it! Im now finishing a little bathmat, which is a great first project, but the large rug is soooooooo much fun, even if its a bit of hard work. I dont think it compares to say knitting a cabled sweater, not even close!

Do you still have a sheet in your house that has not been transformed into a rug? 😉
The rug is gorgeous, I especially love the bright orange part. Can´t wait to see the next rug you make.

Thanks so much Jeanette, actually I have a whole pile on vintage comforter covers, all the same pattern, that I picked up at a thrift store at least 6 years ago….and theyre calling me, oh and theres the box of sheets in the attic too…..sometimes it pays to be a pack rat!

I have a rug that my grandmother made that is made from old button down shirts that my grandpa wore out. She died in 2010 and last time we were at grandpa’s in April I found a box FULL of rugs that she had started but never finished. I’ve been looking for how to do this forever! Thank you!!

Wow, Casey, thats so special, thanks so much for sharing! How wonderful to continue a craft that your grandmother started! I learned to crochet from my grandmother, and hope to teach my grandchildren some day!
I have seen a post by another blogger in which she was carrying on the rag crocheting tradition of her grandmother, and was doing it with an F sized hook and just pulling large loops, which made the rug plush, not tight like mine.
all the best and let me know how it goes!
