A New Crocheted Blanket Project: Test Swatches!

Crochet Hexigon Blanket Test Swatches

In case you had any doubts, I returned from a month in the United States with a whole suitcase full of yarn. Yes, truly! (Just don’t mention it to my husband, okay?) The fact is that I can’t get quality acrylic yarn where I live, so I had to stock up. And while I wouldn’t recommend going yarn shopping without any particular project in mind, I did just that, selecting a bunch of colors of Red Heart super saver yarn (on sale!) that I would use to make a blanket. Now I regret not getting more, or rather just some of every color, but certainly have enough yarn on hand to finish at least one nice sized blanket and a bunch of small ones as well.

So then the question is, what kind of blanket to crochet? I need a project that I can take with me on trips, so that means it has to be squares of some kind, which at least narrows it down a bit! Here are three swatches that I made, and I did pick one of them, and a blanket is under way. Though it won’t be finished any time soon, so don’t hold your breath!

I’ll show my progress soon, as I’m still trying to figure out whether to crochet the pieces together as I go, or join them all at one time with say an additional crocheted row. I’ll let you know!

Thanks so much, was just having doubts about the colors I choose under pressure standing in the yarn aisle at the store, so youve made me feel a little better!

Gorgeous! You will have to reveal how you chose between three such cool motifs. Feeling pulled towards a hexagon blanket myself, but since I haven’t traveled in a while, I’ll have to figure out a way to get some soft yarn first!

I am fond of knitting and I should say that this yarn looks really expensive and qualitative. Last months I finished knitting a blanket for my little son. It consists of small squares which have different colors. It is a real achievement for me.

Thanks Maria, infact this yarn is almost as inexpensive as one can get, something like $3.50 for a skein weighing about 200g/330 meters. all the best!

I found you through Pinterest and LOVE the bottom African Flower. I never would have thought of doing the flower as one color, and am considering doing that for my next project (a blanket for my youngest niece). Thank you for sharing!
