Crocheted Doily Stool Cover Is Quick And Simple!

Crocheted Doily Stool Cover Side View
At long last I have whipped up a crocheted stool cover for one of our simple wooden stools, and it turns out to actually be a crocheted doily stool cover! Truthfully I bought this stool last spring because I just had to crochet a stool cover, really. And then we realized how handly these stools really are, so the good news is we bought two more, which means two more stool covers to come!

Crocheted Doily Stool Cover

I crocheted the doily portion in just one hour as I was waiting for my kids on the couch of their piano teacher, and it was pure luck that it happened to be exactly the diameter of the stool. This morning I finished off with the sides and a bit more so that the cover goes under the stool where I threaded a string through a row of double crochet to pull it tight.

That’s all for now, will be back with another post with the pattern, which I actually took from a vintage thread crochet purse, this was meant to be a medallion in the middle, but it’s a perfect stool cover!

The stool cover is really beautiful! But I have a question. I really doubt that stool covers with a distinctive structure like a “doily” is still enjoyable to sit. What’s your experience? Or is there another use for the stool?

You do have a point Carmen, I sat on it and didnt notice that the texture was bothersome….Ill get a few people to sit on it and give me their opinion. Its really just extra seating when theres a crowd.

Thanks Winnie, funny thing is that my husband keeps showing if off to everyone, and it was made with some wool that a neighbors son found years ago chucked somewhere, and during Pesach cleaning they offered it to me…..about five balls or so…….and Ive finally started to put them to use, yippee. Two more stools to come!

Thanks Sara, I have something to look forward to on Monday.. ha ha what type of wool is it sarah, it looks antique

thanks Tracy, it is the kind of wool one would use to knit a fishermans sweater…..and what a good eye you have, it is actually vintage, Id say at least 40-50 years old given the tags, and funny thing is that its American made wool, found by my neighbor here in Israel somewhere on the street….they hung onto it for years until finally gifting it to me!

This stool looks very romantic and tender that it is even scary to sit on it in order not to spoil the textile. I wonder if it is comfortable because they are white and in practice in a week they will be dirty, or are they just as a part of décor?

Hi Maria, This stool is only used occassionally, so we spend much more time looking at it than sitting on it, and I may only keep the cover on for the winter, or if its going to used for a long period the cover is quite simply removable.
My daughter did sit on it Friday night for a few hours and it was very comfortable. All the best!

I just made one of these … my version has a few “features” (not mistakes …) in it – but is essentially your pattern. I was going to get rid of my plain pine stools, but now they will get a new paint job to go with their new covers. Love it !! Made it using plain undyed cotton (garden) string – looks fantastic if I do say so myself. 🙂

thanks so much, so glad to hear it was a success! Would love to see photos of your version! I need to post the pattern for the second one Ive done, and still come up with a third idea…stay tuned!
