Weaving In The Ends While Crocheting vs. Weaving In At The End?

Crochet Weaving In The Ends

While I can’t share with you my progress in my latest crochet project, as it’s a gift for Chanukah, I thought I’d share a little glimpse of what the back is looking like just about now, and multiply this by about ten, and you’ve got a sea of ends. Well, it could be worse, I’ve only used two colors per hexigon, as opposed to the standard four for this pattern, so this is really only half the mess it could have been!

And, in case anyone is wondering why I’m not posting more craft projects lately, well this is the answer, but the good news is that I’m in the home stretch, which means that weaving in all those ends will be a reality in less than a week or so! The good news is that this won’t have to be a last minute effort, and that then I’ll be able to move on to a bunch of other projects for Chanukah, yippee.

So, to answer the question that I’ve posed as the title to this post, I decided this time to just take a deep breath and weave in all the ends in one fell swoop, at the end, since that is what works for me. Others of course prefer to not be overwhelmed by all the end weaving, which is done with a yarn needle, and weave in as they go. It’s really just a personal thing, which do you prefer?

I usually try and work the end away when i have them in my hands, If possible i work 2 DC with both threads , if not i lay the last thread over the similar color and tighten the 1-3 [or eve 4-5 if possible] stitches of the New color over that part. Once it becomes a habit you will do it Automatically.
Ps in Traditional Goblin weaving one leaves some ends at the back for future repairs etc.
Congrats on this project that looks lovely .

I must say that I’d rather crochet a mile long blanket without wincing than weaving those dreaded ends. However, it must be done so most often I do it while crocheting. Cannot stand the mess at the end.

It really depends on the project for me to decide. Sometimes a compulsion overtakes me, though, and i find myself weaving in the ends that I’ve already crocheted in. That’s when I know I’m obsessed!

I have found a way to crochet them in as I go by carrying the backs through as I do the dcs. I found it on a video for making a zig zag blanket and she was doing it on there. The video is here – you can see her doing it as she starts to crochet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHkNhQZMNgw

It has saved me soooo much time. I don’t do every end like this but this method has really helped me. Hope it helps you too. xx
