Isn’t this festive piece of kid printed wrapping paper just too fun to actually use? And it even looks like a geometric tree, don’t you think? A perfect fall craft with some rich earthy colors, or not!
After making doodle wrapping paper, we decided to re-visit an old favorite, namely potato printed wrapping paper, which also morphed into dense sponge printed wrapping paper, so much fun, I can’t wait to do more. And the kids also enjoyed it as it’s fairly effortless with quick results, a great little perk especially if you’d like them to produce a bunch of sheets to use to wrap holiday gifts!
Of course I have no doubt that you’ll just have to join in on the fun, as I did here above.
And if you leave your eight year old alone and tell him to surprise you, well he might just use the whole HUGE sheet of newprint, and make a large potato print illustration thats bigger than he is!
You’ll Need:
- kid friendly paints, the cheapo kind in the large bottles work just fine
- stuff to stamp with, like potatos and dense cleaning sponge (the stuff that is called here “miracle sponge” and is used to remove tough stains from the walls by taking off a micro layer of paint, I believe, lest I degress, it’s fabulous for stamping!)
- large sheets of butcher paper, newsprint, or even paper bags cut open
How To:
Cut potatos into simple shapes, and cut dense sponge into a square or triangle or rectangle. Have fun dipping sponge or potato into paint and stamping away. The sponge can be stamped about four times before it needs refilling, a great little plus!
Enjoy, we’ve made more wrapping paper after the versions above were photographed and some other fun packaging for Chanukah, which I’ll share with you next week, as soon as the globs of paint dry! And I can’t say enough about stamping with that dense sponge, it cuts so easily with a sharp kitchen knife, and one could really make some quite intricate shapes, give it a try!
