Triangular Crocheted Bunting Backdrop, For A Party Or Anytime!

Looking for a pretty idea for a crocheted party decorations, or maybe something to fill a wall in your home this spring? How about making a festive backdrop, to hang over a buffet table, or in a spot where party goers will be photographed, from a series of crocheted triangular bunting banners? I’ll admit, I only crocheted one of these, (for Purim actually) so this photo is a composite, fabricated in photoshop, though nonetheless a helpful representation!

Crocheted Triangular Bunting Pattern:

I used a 3.5mm hook and baby weight acrylic yarn, you can use any yarn and the hook that works with it!

Round 1: Ch 6 and join with slip stitch to form a circle.

Round 2: Crocheting into the circle: Ch 3 (equals 1 DC), 4 DC, Ch 3, 5 DC Ch 3, 5 DC, Ch 3. Slip stitch to top of first ch 3.

Round 3: Ch 3, 1 DC in the next 4DC, In corner space: 3DC, Ch3, 3 DC, 1 DC in next 5 DC. Continue around as above, and slip stitch into top of first ch3.

Round 4: Ch 3, 1 DC in the next 10DC, In corner space: 3DC, Ch3, 3 DC, 1 DC in next 11 DC. Continue around as above, and slip stitch into top of first ch3. Cut yarn and pull tail through loop on hook.

Note: one can make larger triangles if desired by following pattern which naturally increases itself with each row. Also, I like the fact that the triangles have a curved top edge, as it gives a scalloped effect, but if you’d rather have triangles that are true triangles, adding more rows will likely help your triangles have a straighter top edge, give it a try and see!

To Join Triangles:
Chain 35 (or desired length) to form a string for hanging bunting, then single crochet across the top of the first triangle, and continue single crocheting across the second top and so on. One can also choose to add some chains between the triangles for a slightly different look. After you have joined all the triangles, chain 35 to match first side.
