Granny Square Triangular Shawl With Pom Poms!

Crocheted Granny Square Shawl

Last winter I crocheted this cozy granny square triangular shawl/scarf with a fun pom pom edging, and am just getting around to sharing with you now! I used aran weight 100% wool, the creme is vintage and came from a neighbor and the red and brown were from my mother’s stash from the 70’s!  So glad to have used something that had yet to find it’s purpose in this world, and was taking up space in my craft room storeroom!.

Crocheted Granny Square Shawl For Girl

While the shawl is almost like a poncho on my then eleven year old daughter, on me it is more like a fun triangular scarf. A warm scarf that I made just in time to use during that very uncharacteristic snow that left us housebound for a glorious week. It was like a vacation in the Swiss Alps without having to leave home, and since it also included some crocheting while watching the snow fall it was really quite heavenly!

I joined the squares such that the join is intentionally raised, a textured look that works really well with this thick shawl, and is lovely when paired with the pom pom edging which was so very fun and quite simple to crochet. That is all for now, gotta go actually locate this scarf so that I can give you some specific details pattern wise! If you’d like to be notified when the rough pattern has been posted, just leave me a comment and I’ll be happy to contact you! Happy crocheting!

Sara – I know how to crochet. I used to crochet a lot (huge table-cloth, huge bed-cover etc). My Mom was really an expert, and that is why it’s difficult for me to even try, now when she’s gone

Sorry to hear about your sadness Winnie. Maybe if you look at it as a way of connecting with your mother by doing something she loved it could really turn your feelings around, and give your crochet a whole new meaning? Maybe thinking about her and even talking to her while crocheting could really help heal your heart, and bring your relationship into a whole new place. all the very best!

Your work and inspirtion are all so wonderful. Especially for the person that didn’t want to crochet because it reminded her of her Mom Oh yes.. crochet to connect with her and talk and pray while you crochet. Don’t shy away from it. Embrace your craft while you are embracing your love with your precious Mom.
Crochet is so good for mental health and depression. I just feel better loving on all my yarn that has taken over my house.
    With love
