Purim is here, and we have heard the reading of Megillat Esther, which means that next up, starting tomorrow morning is another reading of the megillah, then the giving of gifts of food (with neighbors and friends, bosses, teachers, rabbis, etc.) called mishloach manot, and then a very spirited (in more ways than one!) meal in honor of the great day. My kids are now fast asleep, but earilier in the evening our house looked like a little Purim factory, with everyone hard at work to make things to give to their friends, and me generally supervising and trying to finish all the things I need for tomorrow. I thought I’d give you a little tightly edited look at some of the things that were underway when I grabbed my camera, enjoy!
Fish tags under way. I realized that in past years the tag was an afterthought, so this year I’m making up for that by making it an important part of the design!
And what is this you may ask? Well yes, of course, paper mache meatballs for a spaghetti and meatballs costume that I still need to hot glue together……
And yes, for the first time ever, we baked some hamentaschen, not that we needed one more thing to do, but I’ve always felt a bit guilty about not baking any…..now my daughter is old enough to practically do the whole thing herself, with just a bit of help from me, so chocolatespread filled whole wheat, no margarine, hamentaschen can now be found in our kitchen!
And this little package, well this is basically what each of my youngest kids made for their friends, so we now have about 60 of these sitting in our living room waiting to be given out tomorrow. (They are little bags made using a square plastic disposable salad plate, cut in half and then hot glued together. ) Whoops, scratch that, actually 50, since my nine year old made some really cute little clown containers using oatmeal cans!
