11 Great Uses For The Mandala Doily You Just Crocheted!

Crocheted Mandala Doily

After sharing with you my crocheted mandala stool cover last week, I got to work trying to figure out an actual pattern, as I crocheted it without a plan. And what do you know, I ended up with something that looks more like a doily than a stool cover, which go me thinking about all the great ways one can really use a beautiful crocheted mandala as is. So here goes:

11 Great Ways To Use A Mandala Doily

  1. Turn it into a great looking (mostly decorative) bowl by stiffening it with the stiffener of your choice and laying over a bowl to dry. Check out my crocheted doily bowl.
  2. Turn that bowl upside down, and voila, you’ve got yourself a lampshade!
  3. Sew it onto a pillow, as an applique, for a wonderful addition to your bed or couch.
  4. Stiffen it and hang it on the wall as art, maybe even hang a few feathers from it for a fun dream-catcher look.
  5. Sew it onto the front of a sweatshirt or t-shirt for a great fashionable look, especially cute for kids.
  6. Sew it to a solid colored baby blanket (fleece, flannel, cotton quilted) for a more resilient, yet still handmade with love, version of a crocheted baby blanket.
  7. Thread a string around the last row, gather and use as a stool cover.
  8. Sew a piece of netting to the back, line the edge with heavy beads or fishing weights, and use as bowl cover for summer picnics.
  9. Put it in a bag with the rest of the things you’ve crocheted that have no apparent use, who knows what the future holds?
  10. Take a great picture of it, and then unravel it and reuse the yarn, yes really, I have certainly done that!

And now, number 11, drum roll please: Use it as a doily, now isn’t that original?

Great list. Wanted to make sure that people also know about the #MandalasForMarinke crochet project that is collecting crochet mandalas made in memory of Wink from A Creative Being. Information can be found on the tab at the top of the Crochet Concupiscence blog for anyone that is interest.

OK here is one more. If you have a yarn winder, and you like to pull the yarn from the inside of the ball of yarn, and your ball of yarn is getting limp, and you want to wind it again with your yarn winder, then lay a mandala over it while you wind so that it doesn’t tangle up with itself.

Also used one to be a platform for Christmas cards this year. I just piled them on a festive mandala for the time they were out.
