Simple Origami Sailboat Craft For Kids

Stand-up-origami-sailboat-craftStand up origami sailboats are fun to make and wonderful as a group project, as they look great together! Learning origami is a great summer activity for kids, and this sailboat is simple enough for 7 or 8 year olds, or even younger. Paper sailboats can be used in wall hangings, as cake toppers or as fun decor on a shelf somewhere, with the help of a tp roll stand! I’ve started a small crafting class for a group of 8 to 9 year old boys, and they loved this craft, and especially adding the flag at the end!

You’ll Need:

  • origami paper, colored on one side and white on the other
  • colored paper, for flag and waves
  • toothpicks
  • toilet paper tubes
  • hot glue gun or high tack craft glue

How To:

  1. Practice folding these simple sailboats using scrap paper before using the origami paper. (google “simple origami boat” and you’ll find many sources for instructions)
  2. Cut strips of blue waves to wrap around the toilet paper tube
  3. Cut slits in the toilet paper tube
  4. Glue parts of flag together and glue to sailboat
  5. Wrap waves around toilet paper tube and affix with glue or tape.

That is it, enjoy!
