Pick yourself a plate of flowers this summer, dear reader, you won’t regret it! And disovering ways to enjoy flowers other than the classic bouquet and vase is certainly exciting!
I have to say, I have always loved the combo of magenta/pink and cobalt blue, and so this photo really makes me happy. It is a free stock photo, not my own, but just had to share it with you, as truly this is just a plate full of joy that you can create yourself if you hopefully happen to be somewhere with a garden full of flowers, or a field full of wildflowers! Or you could decide to make a watercolor painting or collage using this photos as a reference! Honestly, there are so many design lessons to be learned from this photo as well, starting with composition and the placement of the flowers and the decision to leave the mint leaves in just one spot, which I think may be part of the overall success here, rather than scattering them around.
Ah yes, and this could also be inspiration for creating art with flowers and leaves collected on a nature walk with kids, just please be careful not to pick any endangered species or flowers belonging to someone! Take photos of the creations as an incentive for really investing in the activity, and teach kids about focal point, visual weight, visual motion, and what makes a pleasing arrangement.
Yes friends, all that from a lovely photo of a plate of flowers! But back to the title of the post, if you happen to have a bounty of flowers, you don’t have to display them as bouquets, fill a deep plate with water, make an arrangement, and enjoy! This is also nice to do with flowers from bouquets that are on their last legs..

Happy summer, and if you live in the city, be sure to visit some local gardens and enjoy!
And just by the way, photos like this one can also be great reference for drawing and painting, though make sure you have permission or it is royalty free. Or use the composition as inspiration but then use your own combo of flowers, the possibilities are endless……..
