Purple Statice Blooms On The Coast In Pacifica, CA

Stunning clusters of purple statice bloom on the coast in Pacifica, California in August and the sight is truly something worth sharing with you! Most of us only know statice as a flower often added to bouquets, so seeing it growing is quite interesting. I actually spotted wild statice (also called sea lavender) growing in Rosh HaNikra, Israel, at the edge of the beach, and had no idea it was a native to Israel, also a lovely discovery. Statice is an annual, but wow so very worth adding to your garden, as bursts of purple like this in such large clusters are fabulous. And if you have the space, why not grow some specifically to cut and dry, that would be such a fabulous gift giving idea, and as dried flowers they do retain so much color, great for all the purple lovers out there!

The green curly leaves make a wonderful backdrop for the blooms. Purple statice has purple papery flowers, and is known for its long lasting blooms, that are excellent for dried and fresh floral arrangements. Scientifically named Limonium sinuatum, it is also called sea lavender and is a drought-and salt-tolerant plant that thrives in full sun and well-draining soil. That salt tolerance of course is why it looks so great here!

Really wonderful and planted here along an otherwise plain fence with hedges this flower works overtime in adding color and interest.Statice-blooms-near-sea-Pacifica-CA
