Looking for a cute last minute Rosh HaShana craft to keep the kids busy with great results, and not a lot of clean up? This is it friends, shrinky dink gift tags…… so much fun to make and a great way to delve into a creative project that can be finished in one sitting and is just truly so satisfying. And I personally love the fact that no markers are needed, as colored pencils do the job just fine, if not better than markers which can be too intense. I have been using shrinky dink plastic to make a really fun succah craft which I’ll share with you next week, and one of my students who dropped by yesterday to finish his project made this sweet gift tag for his mother, who happens to be my good friend, and so happy that he put in the extra effort as it is sweet as can be!
The translation is “To My Dear Mother, Have a happy sweet new year, and thank you for everything! Making his mother happy with this craft is a great way to start the new year, right? So get some shrinky dink plastic, mine is A4 size and white, and using just colored pencils create fun gift tags or just about anything. I have kids draw their design on a separate piece of paper, and then trace it, but since this was a simple add on project, he just went ahead and created it right on the plastic. Keep reading for a few more tips!

You’ll Need:
- shrinky dink plastic, for writing notes the white background is preferable
- colored pencils and regular pencils, plus a white eraser
- a hole punch
- ribbon
How To:
- Use the whole length of the plastic for the biggest tag
- Don’t forget to punch hole BEFORE baking!
- Try not to have any smudges, as even the slightest smudge shows up, a white eraser can work to remove smudges
- For large shrinky dinks you will likely have to quickly flatten the piece when taking it out of the oven, I used a cutting board.
- I did find that the white plastic tends to buckle more than the traditional clear plastic, so be aware there is less perfection, but the white background is best for writing
Enjoy and Shanah Tovah U’Metuka!
