How To Make Fun Cardboard Menorahs For Chanukah

As part of a larger craft idea that I’ll share shortly, lets take a look at my how to make fun cardboard menorahs for chanukah craft which goes with my fun dreidel collage craft and kids dreidel collage craft. This idea is actually quite simple to make when you use quilling strips which do most of the work, and the creative combinations one can make are endless. I’ve already tried this idea out with my 3rd and 4th grade boy craft students and the results are truly fabulous. So give this one a try, whether at this small scale or even with large paper strips that you cut yourself, hmmm, now I’ve realized I need to try that! Okay, lets get started!

You’ll Need:

• paper quilling strips

• colored paper

• cereal box cardboard (light weight)

• glue stick

How To:

  1. Start by taking two quilling strips. Glue one strip in the middle, which is the shamash, and then glue the second strip horizontally to form the base for the candles. Make sure each of these two strips are straight, and at a 90 degree angle to one another, more or less!
  2. Now build the rest of the chanukiah (menorah) by starting with the candles, or the base. Use different colors, or one color.
  3. Add details buy cutting a quilling strip in half lengthwise, which gives interest and depth. I started with a light blue base, and then added a darker blue second layer with strips that are half the width.
  4. Make flames from squares of yellow quilling paper.
  5. Make sure all the elements are glued well, and set aside to dry.
  6. Cut out with sharp scissors.

Below is a peak at the work of some of my 3rd grade students, before the cutting out step, which I am doing for them for the nicest results, because I’m nice like that!

Happy Chanukah crafting!
