How To Make Colorful Chanukah Menorahs With Paper Strips

With Chanukah coming in just over a week, now is the time to pull out that fun craft that is great for all ages (maybe 7 and older) and with fabulous results! And do share your knowledge of how to make colorful Chanukah menorahs with paper strips as this one is truly a keeper! I originall made paper collage chanukah menorahs with two groups of 3rd and 4th graders, and one boy who wasn’t in class on that day needed to do a make-up session, and these are the results, (which he and his cousin made) which I just love and had to share with you! And dear readers, the tiny paper stars are also made with quilling strips, so while the younger ones are making menorahs maybe you (plus the teens, too difficult for most younger kids) could learn to make the stars?

Supplies For Chanukah Menorahs Made From Paper Strips:

• paper quilling strips, the cheapest you can find, sold in “hanks”, mine are standard 1 cm wide, though they are available in several widths for those who use them for actual quilling

• colored paper to cut your own strips with a craft knife, if necessary

• cereal box cardboard

• a good glue stick

• my paper collage chanukah menorah tutorial

Above: Here are the chanukah menorahs made by two 3rd grade boys. After I took this photo I cut then out for them for best results, because while I prefer to let the students do as much as possible themselves, cutting this out nicely is a bit difficult for most young kids.

Okay, get crafting, building creativity in children is more important now than ever, and the only way to do that is by actually getting out the materials, making a tiny mess and creating actual items. And by the way, do stress the fun in the thinking and making, not the actual result!
