How To Make A Plate Of Cardboard Purim Hamentaschen

If you are looking for a fun craft for Purim to make today, why not delve into How to Make a Plate of Cardboard Purim Hamentaschen? This craft can be made in any size, even a giant version could be great, and it is relatively quick to whip up, so go for it! (And you could use an existing paper plate as the base, to save time!) My students, who made these versions, especially loved making the faux candy, which could be Purim decor on their own, but I do love the combo of hamentaschen (the triangular Purim cookie, called oznei Haman in Israel) together with the candy, a nice addition to my previous version of just triangular cookies. Okay, lets do it!

Supplies For Cardboard Purim Hamentaschen On A Plate:

• recycled cardboard, corrugated and cereal box cardboard

• sparkled paper or glitter craft foam

• patterned or plain cellophane

• aluminum foil and colored plastic bags for candy

• thin ribbon

• colored paper, or quilling strips

• hot glue and glue stick

How To Make A Plate of Cardboard Hamentaschen Instructions:

  1. Trace around a small plate to make circle for base, then trace around an even smaller plate for the inner piece. My plates are made of a white cardboard circle glued to a brown cardboard circle, but you could do this with just one circle/plate layer.
  2. Decorate rim of plate with quilling strips cut into rectangles, so simple!
  3. Make cardboard hamentaschen in several sizes and with different colored fillings, according to link at the beginning of this sentence.
  4. Make candies by forming balls from aluminum foil or tape plus colored plastic bags. Wrap in cellophane and tie on each end with ribbon. This wrapping and tying is easier if you secure the ends with clothespins, so your hands are free to tie the ribbon.
  5. Arrange on plate and adhere with hot glue, make sure to place some hamentaschen on top, as in photo.

Hang your plate on the front door as a Purim greeting or just about anywhere!
