Today is the first day of the Jewish month of Adar, the sign for which is fish, so lets learn how to make simple cardboard fish cut outs with golden scales! These fish are perfect to have on hand for a myriad of crafts for the holiday of Purim, coming up in two weeks, so make a bunch while you still have a few moments and thank me on Purim when you use them for gift tags, place cards, or to hang just about anywhere as holiday decor. I’m hoping to make fifty or so and hang as an elegant yet festive school of fish from my dining room chandelier, but of course that could change. I’ll of course keep you posted, but in the mean time, lets get to it!

The best part about these fish is that all you need is recycled cardboard and metallic gold stickers, you know, the kind one might use to seal an invite. Cutting the stickers in half gives you wonderful fish scales and is a huge time saver. That said, applying the cut stickers as scales is so much fun, but not super quick, especially if you are doing two sides, so if you need a lot of fish, maybe opt to leave some plain, which might in any case be preferable?
You’ll Need:
• recycled cardboard, not too thick
• metallic gold stickers, mine are 3 cm diameter, and you’ll need quite a lot
• scissors, and a black pen
How To:
Draw two fish shapes, one slightly higher than the other, and use as stencils to trace around. Make a whole bunch, cut them out and apply the metallic gold stickers (that have been cut in half) as scales. Apply the stickers and then cut off the excess from the other side, saving the largest pieces to use for the next fish.
Add an eye and define the mouth, and that is it. consider adding a white dot in the eye, for added interest, with a white gel pen, didn’t get to that yet!
That is it, enjoy!
