Given my latest obsession with whole wheat sourdough baking at home, I just had to be the over achiever and bake enough sourdough to give in my Purim gift baskets, which is actually a bit insane, but doable if you plan a few weeks ahead. After the idea of baking all that sourdough started to become reality, I realized that I ought to pretend that I’ve opened a bakery, and give the sourdough either in custom bakery bags, or with fun tags using the same logo. So introducing How To Make A Limited Edition Logo Gift Bag For Your Purim Bakery! Of course, this is an idea that one could use for gift bags for any occasion, and really not difficult if you plan ahead. Ready?

How To Make A Custom Logo:
It is true, I’m a graphic designer, so a simple logo is not a big deal, but in this case even I resorted to some AI help for quick-ish results. I used a free logo generator, then added the hebrew lettering in Indesign. If you only need one language it is simple to do it all on any platform that generates logos. My first option, a single round sourdough loaf with some leaves on either side was quickly ruled out by husband who said it looked like a crab, and yes he was right, yikes! (So it is a good idea to run a design by someone else before sharing with others, even if it is Purim!)
How To Apply A Logo To Gift Bags:
In my case I did not want the bag to actually be mistaken for the real thing, so the fact that the label is a label, since in a different color was somewhat intentional and also for ease. Had I actually thought beyond buying the brown bags and bought white ones, the label aspect would have been less obvious.
Here are the steps:
- Design your logo and print it out in multiples that are the size you need.
- Cut out and use a glue stick to apply to bag.
- Voila, looks great!
Other tips:
• If you really want your label to be a color, purchase light weight printer paper in the desired color, or add a water color or coffee wash after printing. If you add a wash you’ll have to iron the labels as they will buckle, but may be worth the effort?
• If you want a fancier look, consider mounting the white paper label on a piece of metallic or patterned paper, and then cutting that out leaving a nice border.
• To make gift tags mount your logo on cereal box cardboard and punch a hole at the top to thread a ribbon.
• This was the first time I’ve done a presentation like this one, and looks like I’ll have to do it again as it was so much fun!
