With the Passover seder coming in less than a week, now is the time for some quick crafts that will create memories for the little ones (or big ones?) And friends, since everyone does need to sit for a moment, learning how to make crocheted lice with hot glue details might be just the project for you! That is assuming that you already know how to crochet, and ideally are comfortable winging it a bit once you get the general idea of the pattern I’ve written. AND, you can take this idea and make all kinds of bugs in many colors, not just lice! The secret to the success of this simple crochet project is, in my humble opinion, the addition of the hot glue that adds that slimy factor, and gives the simple shape some much needed definition. I used a regular hot glue gun, but would recommend a mini glue gun for more accuracy, but then again, just do it!

Instructions For Crocheted Lice With Hot Glue Details:
- crochet your lice, maybe in gold and brown, not black, using my crocheted lice pattern. I used a 5mm and a 3.5mm hook with the same yarn to get two sizes.
- Using a hot glue gun, with regular hot glue sticks, add stripes and lines to your lice.
- Consider using glue sticks that are silver or gold and sold for use with mini glue guns, that could be great as well? Take a look at a photo of lice for inspiration.

Can I Use Hot Glue With Crochet In General?
Since we are talking about hot glue and crochet, lets delve into that a bit. It is true, hot glue does stick well to yarn, and therefore certainly can be used to affix accents to crochet projects, and there are apparently some who actually use hot glue to assemble crocheted stuffed animals, though I have to actually look into that further. The only thing about hot glue is that is is stiff, so you wouldn’t want to feel it within the soft crocheted item, and it isn’t acurate like sewing.
I do remember seeing hot glue used on the bottom of crocheted booties to give them some grip, which is a brilliant idea, and that is where (I think) I got the idea for using hot glue with these lice.
If I had some red yarn I’d crochet a flat teardrop shape and add some hot glue details, for the “blood” of the Ten Plagues, but Passover prep calls so that will have to wait!
