Apparently embroidery is trending and I'm picking up on that somehow, as after many many years I suddenly had this urge to embroider! I gathered together the supplies to take along on our trip to the USA, and actually made a few things, with many more items created upon our return. And truly it is just so very wonderful as you can go big or small (the preference for starters) and display your pieces in embroidery hoops, or hang them in your dollhouse, or applique them to something.
One of the things I've realized this time around is that organizing embroidery threads on cards is a must, otherwise you end up with a huge clump of tangled mess, believe me! So grab some pieces of cardboard and make your own embroidery floss cards in seconds, and ahhhh, now you can get to it! I'd advise also possibly making rectangles, rather than the squares here in order to make a place for the separated threads as well as the whole 6 strand floss seen here. (Most embroidery, depending on size calls for separating the 6 strands into two 3 strand lengths.)
Okay, let's make some lovely embroidery floss holders.
You'll Need:
- regular corrugated cardboard cut into 5cm x 5cm squares, or just a bit more oblong
- embroidery floss
How To:
Cut squares and then cut slits in middle top and bottom, with one slit to the side for end. Take hank of floss, find the end, place it in one of the slits in the middle and simply wind. Ahh, so satisfying!
