This summer I actually took my own advice and used some vacation time to try something new, okay not actually a new craft, but certainly something I’ve never done before nor dreamed of doing, and that is crocheting with thread and a tiny hook – in this case a 1mm hook and size 8 cotton thread! I have seen teeny tiny granny square blankets for dollhouses and just had to give it a try, and now I’m in love with crocheted things at a smaller scale for my 1/8 scale Maileg style dollhouse. In fact, I’m going to have to go pick up some more of this thread, to give crocheting some clothes for my Maileg mice a try! Or maybe another few granny square blankets (which I’ll share soon) as I’m totally in love with the results. Truthfully, I now realize that the granny square dollhouse blankets I saw were likely crocheted with even smaller supplies, but the idea of weaving in ends I can’t see, and crocheting with a hook so tiny it looks like a needle, hmm, I won’t say never, but for now I’ll enjoy this size!
Of course everything looks much larger in this photo that in reality, the granny squares shown here are 3.5cm in diameter, and as far as dollhouse scale not anywhere close to the size for actual scale, which would be more like 1.5cm, but so it goes, the items I crocheted do look much better than crocheting with worsted weight, the smallest I had tried up until now!
Happy crocheting! Ah yes, and just by the way, sorry to say but crocheting at this size is only recommended for a seasoned crocheter, otherwise it would be just too difficult.
