All things embroidery is back, friends, and how do I know that? Quite simply because I now want to embroider, for the first time in many many years, which means I’m picking up on the energy that floats around on the web/in publications when a new trend is surfacing, truly! I never thought I’d find myself wanting to cross stitch, and yet, yes I do! Of course embroidery can come in all shapes and sizes, and it can also include applique, which can be a great way to make something, like this artful hoop art, without spending months on it.Then again maybe you’d like to use small scraps of fabric to make little stuffies that you can embroider before you stuff them! Whatever speaks to you, just give it a try, now is the time to embroider! (Even if it is a teeny tiny dollhouse pillow?) Ah yes, an don’t forget to add some tiny beads and sequins!
You’ll Need:
- an embroidery hoop
- background fabric
- scraps of fabric for applique
- embroidery thread and needles
- beads and sequins to add tiny details
- pins, or preferably iron-on fusible web
With applique, and especially bits of patterned fabric, you can lay out a design, with the fabric as the foundation, and then add embroidery not just to tack the pieces to the backing, but also to add fun details. I recommend using iron-on fusible web of some kind for the applique bits of fabric, rather than pinning them on, it will be much easier to work with the piece, and the applique bits will stay flat! Enjoy!
