Crocheted sleeping bags for dolls and small stuffed animals are quick to whip up and truly just the cutest! They make a great handmade gift together with a purchased doll/animal of some kind, though purchase the doll first and then make the sleeping bag to fit! The bears shown here are actually dog toys and were about $2 each, which is certainly worth it, and I’ve already ordered more to make a whole dollhouse just for them, because at this point I’m obsessed with doll houses for all! These sleeping bags will be gifted together with a purchased tent meant for a guinea pig or bird, as well as a dollhouse campfire set and some lanterns, a guitar and a few crocheted baskets, ah yes and the rabbits, previously photographed withe the DIY crocheted doll pillows, linked to below in the You’ll Need section.
Ah, and just by the way, this sleeping bag was inspired by contribution from this Craft Schooling Sunday linky party, and I’ve linked to the free pattern below. Okay, want to whip up a crocheted sleeping bag? Let’s get to it!
You’ll Need:
- worsted weight variegated yarn and a 5mm hook, or appropriate hook (or of course whatever you have on hand, just do a swatch first to make sure the size ends up to fit your doll)
- I actually unraveled a scarf I had made years ago and would no longer wear, so give that a thought!
- to crochet a sleeping bag for a Sylvanian Family creature check out this post, which was actually my inspiration
- a small doll or stuffed animal, purchase first and make the bag according to the measurements needed
- crocheted doll pillows pattern
Note: My sleeping bags are not matching because I was using up variegated yarn recycled from an unraveled scarf, you can choose to make them matching of course!

Crocheted Sleeping Bag Pattern For A
Dimensions Of Sleeping Bags I Made: 18cm long x 10 cm wide
Chain 15
Round 1: Work 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across to the last ch, (total of 11 dc) work 3 dc in the last ch, working in opposite side of the starting ch, dc in each ch across, (total 11 dc) join with sl st to top of first dc.
Round 2: ch 1, sc around, join to first sc with slip stitch
Round 3: ch 3 dc around, join to first dc with slip stitch
Rounds 4-14: alternate sc and dc rows until completing round 14, which is a sc round
Following worked flat, not in rounds:
Round 15: ch3, dc 14 stitches and turn
Round 16: ch1, sc 14 stitches and turn
Rounds 17-22: continue as above until round 22. alternating sc rows with dc rows.
Fold over this flat piece to make pocket, and secure with sc around 3 sides, leaving bottom side open. If you like you can stuff the pocket and also close the bottom. I chose to leave it open such that pillow fits in pocket. I also did sc across the top, but you don’t have to, I just think it gives a nicer finish.
Truly so simple, so go make a bunch and enjoy!

Making the crocheted pillows to match is so simple, though of course you could sew some as well.
Goodnight little bears, enjoy your cozy new sleeping bag! And friends, why not make a whole camping kit to give as a gift? That is what I’m doing, with a little store bought tent meant for guinea pigs, a campfire dollhouse set, some crocheted baskets, a few dollhouse lanterns and benches, and even crocheted backpacks!
