Burgundy Phaelanopsis Orchid In Bloom!

Burgandy-phaelanopsis-in-bloomAs the proud proprietor of a mini orchid sanctuary for neglected orchids, when I’ve had success in nurturing a neglected plant not only back to life but into blooming glory it is truly exciting! Last summer a family friend who is a landscaper in Tel Aviv gifted me with a whole crate full of what I could see were especially unique orchids, and with flower color other than white. What color exactly was a mystery in most cases, and this burgundy phaelanopsis is truly a surprise, and I just love it. I am used to years of white orchid blooms, which I love, and I do appreciate the other pink ones that have bloomed in my sanctuary recently, but this one, wow! What can I say? Friends, do care for your orchids after they’ve bloomed, rescue them from friends/family who are ill treating them, and even purchase a few for yourself, the rewards are well worth the few minutes a week that is required!

Deep Red PhaelanopsisAnd just by the way, if you happen to go beach combing, pick up small pieces of drift wood to place at the base of your orchids to conceal the plastic pot rather than having to purchase moss! And yes, if you have lots of plants, that you may rotate, having pots for all of them can be a bit much, so consider a collapsible bag for plants, like the one I’ve used here, maybe not the most gorgeous thing, but it hides the unattractive plastic pots and truly does the job.
