Presenting a fun idea for an ocean themed party centerpiece, that the whole family can make! In our case these waves were made as a crossing the Red Seas centerpiece, and can you imagine a crossing the Red Sea centerpiece running down the length of your table? My stand up waves, that you can place in one line, or two, with little figures in between the 2 rows, are super simple to whip up, and even better, you can certainly save them for at least a few years! The first time I made these stand up waves they were quite simply silver, and I only realized that I could add some sea creatures to them last year, which I just love, especially since it makes it more festive and fun for the kids!

Of course if you’d rather not have waves running down your table for Passover, this is certainly a great idea for an ocean themed birthday party, or any party for that matter. You could add just about anything to the waves, like numbers or letters or surfers, or water skiers, or ? So have fun with this one, and if you don’t quite have time for it this Passover, keep it in mind for next year! Then again, send someone to the art supply store to get you some corragated silver craft cardboard, or even just heavy weight silver cardstock in large sheets, and truly you can cut out the waves in 15 minutes, and then next year you can add the sea creatures! Okay, lets do this!

You’ll Need:

  • corragated light weight craft cardboard in metallic silver, or metallic silver cardstock weight paper in large sheets, or what ever you have on hand!
  • watercolor sea creatures tutorial here
  • scissors and craft glue

How To:

  1. Make stand up waves by folding your paper in half and simply cutting out wave shapes, with the tips of the waves attached to the other size as shown. If your cardboard in light weight like mine, short segments of about 20″ are recommended otherwise getting them to stand up might be more difficult. Do a test and see, you can always cut your waves into smaller segments if necessary.
  2. Adhere the sea creatures to the waves with craft glue or hot glue.
  3. Use as a centerpiece, especially on the 7th day of Passover when we celebrate the splitting of the Red Sea!
  4. Pack away with the Passover dishes to enjoy again next year!

More Crafty Ideas For Your Ocean Themed Party

If you’ve seen this post and want to use this idea for a birthday party or party of some kind honoring someone who loves the ocean, there are so many ways to go with this idea! Here are just a few, off the top of my head……

• Buy a collection of toy boats to place on the table with the waves.

• Think buoys, lighthouses and fishing nets!

• Fill glass votive holders/candleholders with sand and add candlelight to the table

• How about some fishbowls with real fish in them? Or fish bowls filled with sand and shells?

• Buy kid-sized flippers and a snorkle to add to the decor?

• Make a tablecloth from a bunch of beach towels sewn together? Or cloth napkins made from beach towels with a rope napkin ring? Or maybe just drape towels over the chairs as gift to the guests?

• If your gathering is outdoors, then consider tiki torches and lanterns.

• Go tropical ocean by incorporating lots of large tropical leaves (real or faux)

Okay, are your gears turning? Have fun with it, and truly you don’t have to actually buy anything, just draw the items I’ve mentioned on cardboard where possible, and stand them up on the table or buffet, super cute!
