Crochet A Chunky Ribbed Scarf For Men And Boys

Crocheted half double crochet ribbed scarf

Crocheting a ribbed scarf using the half double crochet stitch is so simple that I just had to make another one! Well, truthfully this is my third, as after my first ribbed crochet scarf for my husband, my nine year old son wanted one as well, so I had just enough yarn to make a child-sized version. But of course if I make a scarf for my nine year old, then my eleven year old will certainly want one too! And thus this longer and thicker version of the original crocheted ribbed scarf was born! And I have to say, I am so happy that my stash included two versions of the same yarn in slightly different blue jeans shades, allowing me to make a simple color change for the last two rows, which I think gives this scarf a modern twist that brings it to a whole new level style-wise.

You’ll Need:

The yarn and hook of your choice, I used a 5mm hook and DK weight acrylic yarn that was actually from my mother’s stash from the 70’s, yes really! (Thanks mom, I think? Just hope I don’t pass any 40 year old yarn on to my daughter! Another great excuse to use it all up, right?)

Instructions:Follow instructions for the cozy crocheted ribbed scarf, crochet 12 rows and then change to a new color for rows 13 and 14.

My son loves his new scarf and while one can certainly buy a scarf now for just a few dollars even, there’s nothing like bundling up your loved ones in things you’ve made!

My favorite look for men is created with the ribbing technique. It does take a little longer to work up these projects – but well worth it.
    Nice scarf! Happy new year.

The guy’s version is wonderful too! The change of color at the end looks very cool!

Thanks Ana, my son hasnt taken this scarf off for days, and wishing I had the time to make some more in different colors……but with so many other things one wants to crochet, gotta move on to something else!
