Introducing some super fun recycled packaging robots that you can make for birthday party decor or anytime, just because. These robots can be made by kids with some adult assistance for the assembly, or by parents who just might want to surprise a little one on their birthday, which is what I did. Mind you ten isn’t so little, but my son still loved seeing these guys on the dining room table set for a birthday party on the morning of his birthday.
Best of all, this is a craft that you can do fairly quickly, and requires just a few basic supplies together with some creativity, enjoy!
Mr Long Legs Robot Requires:
- one small cereal box (ours held ice cream cones)
- 2 plastic bottles for the legs
- 2 plastic tops from chocolate spread, (saved since Passover!) for the feet
- 2 plastic lids from techina containers for eyes
- strips of plastic meat tray for the arms
- one bamboo skewer for the flag pole
- 4 soda bottle caps for details on top of head and ears
- one large round spice container lid, for the hat
- blue painter’s tape for flag and body details
- black permanent marker
- hot glue gun
Mr Shorty Robot Requires:
- one small oblong box (ours held a bottle of medicated shampoo)
- 2 wine corks for the legs
- 1 yellow plastic tops from chocolate spread, (saved since Passover!) for helmet
- 2 tiny checkers pieces for eyes
- two plastic squares cut from a compartmented little tray that held cookies for the feet
- strips of same tray for the arms
- one skewer for the flag pole
- 2 soda bottle caps for details on side of head
- 1 wide mouthed drink bottle top for top of head detail
- blue painter’s tape for flag and body details
- gold paper fasteners for body detail (not necessary)
- black permanent marker
- hot glue gun
How To: Open boxes carefully at side seam and reconstruct inside out, closing box at seam with hot glue. Apply details to box with blue tape and then add features with a black permanent marker. Affix all parts with hot glue, and use blue masking tape where desired. I used it to cover the cork legs for Mr. Shorty Robot, and for the flags as well.
Do exercise caution when using a hot glue gun, and enjoy this opportunity to create your own unique robots! Do send me photos of your results, and I’ll be happy to share them here!
