Crocheted Granny Triangular Shawl…..Super Simple!

Crocheted Triangular Granny Scarf

I’ve been wearing my crocheted granny triangular scarf/shawl for a few weeks now, and loving it! I crocheted this in an evening, and while I wouldn’t guess that a triangular scarf is preferable, this one has been so much fun to wear, and perfect for chilly spring mornings and evenings with a light coat. I was inspired by a similar scarf made by happy in red, one of my faithful Craft Schooling Sunday contributors.

And not only is this a very simple project that’s great for beginners, I think the mix of solid and variegated yard makes it look quite a bit more complicated than it really is!

You’ll Need:
This pattern could really be made with any hook and any yarn, because you decide how big to make it depending on the number of rows you choose to crochet, since the pattern starts with the tip and works up!
  • Crochet hook size G/5.00-5.50mm
  • worsted weight yarn, I used a wool/acrylic blend for the variegated, and solid acrylic for the grey portions

Pattern: I will fill this in later, (very busy with Passover cleaning!) but for the mean time, please refer to my inspiration here, where there’s a rough pattern at the bottom of the post, with the following changes:

I crocheted, with the addition of 3 rows of single crochet, (explained below) 27 rows total.

Row 8: Change to variegated yarn and crochet entire row in single crochet.

Rows 13 and 19: Change to solid colored yarn for this row only, and crochet row in single crochet. At center point, sc 3 ch3, sc 3.

Finishing Trim: I crocheted a row of picot stitch around the two sides, but not the neck side. Picot stitch is as follows: sc, ch3, sc in same stitch, sc in next stitch, sc, ch3, sc in same stitch……such that you get little bumps every other stitch.

Enjoy! This would be really nice in cotton yarn as well for a little summery wrap!

How did you switch from SC back to the granny cluster pattern, if I may ask? I am trying to wrap my head around it and just can’t! Or did you go OVER the previous stitches into the spaces to hold the granny triangle shape and pattern? This is just too beautiful, I’d love to try to make it! 🙂

It would be nice if you would give the directions to this shawl. You obviously have talent and crochet beautifully, but its like you are playing a game and are always busy…..busy enough to not be able to give anyone directions to the shawl, but not busy enough that you can take pictures and talk about all the people you have made them for.
    What’s that all about?
Why don’t you ‘pay it forward’ and be a blessing to others that would love to be able to give the shawl as a gift to someone they love also, but need the directions to do it. Not just look what I made its beautiful, easy, but oh sorry toooooooo busy to give you the directions on how to make it.
    Sure can feel the love.

Thank you for this. The pattern is simple but effective, and works up beautifully. I am using a lace weight yarn with a large hook to create a very open, lightweight shawl which can be worn front (round the neck) or back (as a normal shawl). The link in the details above gives an excellent graphic pattern and describes it in words too. It works up very quickly as is difficult to go wrong.

thanks Angela, glad it is working for you, would love to see the results!
