Ruffled Knit Scarf Using Mesh Yarn……Knit By A Ten Year Old!

Ruffled Scarf Knit With Mesh Yarn

It just so happens that knitting scarves from mesh yarn is all the rage with the girls in my daughter’s school, so I gave her a ball of this special yarn for Hanukkah, and yesterday she knit herself a scarf. Well, it wasn’t exactly what I’d call knitting, as she used her fingers more than the knitting needles, but she did a great job and is so very proud of her accomplishment. And of course, I’ll be happy to buy her another ball of yarn, for the sake of encouraging crafting! (Now if I can just get her to learn how to actually knit, I’ll be even happier!)

The mesh yarn isn’t really yarn exactly, but rather more like trim, but it comes in a skein, and like many other speciality yarns on the market, allows one to create something with amazing texture and interest! And you only need one ball of yarn to make a scarf, so it’s a great idea for gift making this winter too!

And there she goes, modeling her new creation which she did of course wear to school to join the club of other young knitters. Yippee!

Thanks Camille. I dont think the brands that we have here in Israel will be whats available for you, but when I googled mesh yarn I saw a bunch of other brands with a product that looks exactly the same.
The mesh yarn also comes with a tiny pom pom edge which is fun too. all the best!

Your daughter did a wonderful job making her scarf, this is one of my favorite yarn fibers and last year when I finally learned to knit I made several of these scarves.
If you are interested I have several full skeins of this yarn I would love to send to you(free)so that you and/or your daughter can put to use. If you would like the yarn email me at Deborah755 at gmail dot com and include your name and mailing address. I am located in Florida in the USA and I have been reading your blog for a few months and I have left comments under my blogspot account. Have a great day

I was intrigued by this, went to the store, and they explained to me how to do this with my fingers :D. (I’m a horrible crafter!). Any links to a video/tutorial on how to do it with your fingers…and how to stop?
    Thanks!

Hi Efrat, Great to hear from you! Sorry havent seen any tutorials, but my daughter was also doing it with her fingers! As far as stopping, you mean binding off? So you begin the row and knit the first stitch such that the loop is on the right hand needle. Then you knit another stitch such that there are two loops on the right hand needle. then you slip the last loop (the right hand loop) over the second loop, so theres only one loop left. Continue like this using up all your loops, cut your yarn and remove last loop from knitting needle and pull yarn through the loop. Then I believe with needle and thread you sew the ends in nicely. All the best!
