A Beautiful Garden Grows In Central Israel……

Garden Emek Hefer Flowering Tree

Can anybody out there identify this lovely tree with lilac-like blooms? No luck with Dr. Google……

Last week my husband and I happened to drive by a wedding hall with a fabulous garden, and we just had to take a peek. Here in Israel weddings tend to be very large and so there are many many wedding halls of all kinds to accomodate all budgets and styles. In the city, wedding hall usually have very little outdoor space, but here on the highway between Hadera and Emek Hefer there was plenty of room for this wedding hall to spread way way out, and so they did, with a gorgeous green garden. Take a look for yourself!

I love looking to the fields beyond, gorgeous!

Garden Emek hefer olive tree

Old olive trees (several hundred years old, I’d say) were brought to the garden—a dramatic look, though a little out of place if you ask me…..since this garden in certainly not “Mediterranean style!”

The green lawn is broken up by squares of bushes and interesting ground covers.

Garden Emek hefer agave

Of course I always love Agave, gotta get one myself!

Garden Emek Hefer Pergola

And who doesn’t love a pergola? During weddings of course there are mattresses on those couches and you can order a drink from your garden perch. This sure doesn’t look like Israel, but sometimes a little escape from our everyday lives is in order, and if you can do it at a wedding, so why not?

Sorry, not sure if my comment went through, because something strange happened.
The top picture looks like it might be Crape Myrtle.

The beautiful flowering tree are actually two trees planted together, and they are crape myrtles. My driveway is planted with a row of them and they are blooming and lovely right now. Crape myrtle come with a variety of bloom colors.

Yes, crepe myrtles. Used extensively in the Houston, TX area for landscaping.

They are crape myrtles. And they come in lovely colors. My favorite is red. The variety also comes in a shrub size.

We know this kind of tree as ‘seringenboom’, a Syringa Vulgaris. But, due to the colours I think these are two trees :-).

Thanks Carrie and to all my readers from Texas and other areas where this beautiful tree can grow! I now realize however that I most certainly cant have one in my area, alack alas, though there are many other options certainly!

As others have said, this looks like the Crape Myrtle tree I have in my backyard. I love it. I’m in Florida, and it reminds me of the Lilacs we grew up north, but not as fragrant. Sadly, Lilacs won’t grow in the southern region of America.

Thanks Linda! I love lilacs too!

Been seeing the Crape Myrtle a lot in the Bay Area as well in landscaping. My parents also have one in their yard. It’s lovely and glad you have them on your side of the globe too!

Thanks Steph, interestingly enough the things that grow well in the Bay Area also grow well here…..and I also have a view very similar to that of looking across the Bay to Mt. Tamalpais, with a strip of lights that even looks like the Bay Bridge! all the best!
