Crocheted Crocodile Stitch Eagle Hat For Purim!

Crocheted crocodile stitch eagle hat

The crocheted crocodile stitch is perfect for making costumes, and it occurred to me that it would be the perfect stitch to make a hat for my six year old who is dressing up as an eagle this Purim. A little ambitious maybe, since I’d never actually tried the crocodile stitch, so I played it safe and bought this pattern, which was the wise thing to do, as I never would have been able to figure out the ear flaps!

And I should add, I’m very fortunate that it’s a still a bit chilly, as this stitch, even done with sport weight yarn makes a very thick hat, so do keep that in mind for any projects using crocodile stitch!

I crocheted a beak which I stuffed with a plastic bag, and together with some eagle eyes, voila, a fun hat was born, just in time, since tomorrow the kids go to school in costume. Yikes, this eagle still needs some wings so gotta run. Purim Sameach!

Hi and thank you so much for your site, I’ve shared it with so many, and I have a group of wonderful friends here in Anchorage, Alaska that have invited to some family celebrations. So for a couple of the children, I really want to give them a hat they can wear and be very special all 9 months of winter. I bought the pattern, and I have made shawls and other berets, but I also have trouble with the flaps.

Hi Celia, this hat will definately keep them warm in an Alaskan winter! You could also do an owl hat with the same pattern that might be a little more practical, or even a monster hat would be great too!
My sons friends kept pulling on his beak, which he found a bit annoying! All the best and would love to see what you come up with!
