Giant Paper Flowers Sneak Peek

Giant Paper Flowers Poppies

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at making some giant paper flowers, ever since I saw the gorgeous giant paper poppies, here. Fortunately for me, we are in the midst of preparing for a family wedding, and a chance to satisfy some of my crafting desires! I thought I’d share a little sneak peek at some of the very large paper flowers I’ve been working on, and my eight year old was gracious enough to put on her flower girl dress to give the photos just a bit of wedding flavor. I should add, my flowers are just a bit different from the ones that inspired me, and I hope to provide a tutorial for you in the next few days, or at the very least a photo of the templates I used with some size guides.

Paper Poppies Giant

In the mean time, collect your supplies, namely very large sheets of paper, some wooden dowels and some green paper for stem details. To make two large flowers and two smaller flowers I used four sheets of Canson art paper— you know the size that has to be rolled up to take home…..or maybe like me you have some paper hanging out waiting for the perfect project? If so, take my word for it, this is the perfect project!

I’ve just posted a tutorial for this project, take a look here.

I’m sharing this project over at Carolyn’s Homework with her new linky party here.

    Oh I love these!
We made some for a wedding, in red, matching my girl´s dresses, two years ago when my daughter´s godfather got married. I think my daughters even helped cutting the petals. I first saw them on Martha Stewart, though.

Thanks Maraike, Im sure they were great, you cant go wrong with this one! The source for my inspiration also made one for the bride with water color paper that they painted, which sound gorgeous and could also be a great kids project. xoxoxoox Sara

Oh these are so wonderful Sara! Big and bold, and so pretty in the soft colours. I bet you they’ll be stunning at the wedding!

Thanks Michele, great to hear from you! Actually the plan is to fill my house with these for some of the festivities that well be hosting the week after the wedding, wish me luck in accomplishing my vision which includes lots of tissue paper lanterns and of course delicious home cooked meals for a small crowd!

Have you seen Eloise Corr Danch’s work? I’m a big fan. I hate to say it, but I think 100 Layer cake (who I love, btw) may have failed to credit her for the original Poppy tutorial. I wish Eloise would do more tutorials…she makes the coolest stuff. Speaking of COOL STUFF, check out your monster flower!!! It’s HOOOOOGE. (That’s like huge, but jumbo.) I have to try these on a larger scale. Yay for paper flowers!

Thanks Peaches! Yes, these huge flowers are amazing. Im posting the sizes I used for the templates today, but really one could go even bigger than I did if you have the space for these beauties! xoxoxoxoSara ps: there was also a paper poppy tutorial on Martha, so Im really not sure who the originator was…….I always try to give credit where credit is due!
