A Kosher Salt Snowstorm! Snowdrift Luminary & Pinecone Centerpiece

Kosher Salt Snow Candlejars+Pinecones

What? Yes, that’s right, kosher salt is the perfect crafting supply for making gorgeous snowdrift candlejars or luminaries, or tea light holders, which look great paired with some snowy pinecones! I’m using mine to get us ready for the holiday of Tu B’Shevat, and just enjoyed this centerpiece over a cup of tea with a friend. So cozy and fun! Great for those of us who would like a little bit of snow in our lives this winter! And it’s so ridiculously easy with beautiful results, my favorite type of project, as you well know.

You’ll Need:

  • kosher salt
  • recycled jars, drinking glasses, candle jars
  • pinecones
  • a long tray, I used a long plastic oval serving platter (the kind that are meant to be disposable but are too nice to throw away)
  • white glue or modge podge

How To:

For the candle jars, simply paint white glue onto the clean surface in a wavy pattern, to resemble a snow drift. (You could cover the whole jar with glue, but this is much more lovely.) Working over a plate, drop kosher salt onto the glue covered glass, until it’s totally covered. Set aside to dry and shake to remove extra salt.

For Pinecones, simply paint white glue onto areas you’d like to cover with “snow” and sprinkle kosher salt onto those spots. set aside to dry and shake to remove extra salt.

Though I saw the idea for the luminaries in several places, I first saw it over at Living with Lindsay, the little snow covered pinecone idea on the other hand, was all mine.
