Crayon Resist DIY Hanukkah Gift Packaging & Gift Tags!

Crayon resist gift packaging+tags

A few weeks ago I was in need of a little mindless art project, you know something quick and easy, and that could of course work as a Hanukkah craft in some way….and then I remembered crayon resist! Ah yes, I could really get into a little doodling with crayons just about now. It’s so simple with great results: draw with crayons on a heavy sheet of white paper, and paint over your design with water colors. Lovely! And you can also try this idea with just a white crayon or even a candle for more mysterious results that kids will love!

Use your sheets of crayon resist artwork for gift tags, greeting cards, envelopes, or gift wrap for tiny packages. And if you happen to have any white boxes hanging around, so go ahead and do crayon resist artwork on them as well, and you’ll have some ready made arftful gift packaging ready to go!

How do you manage to get your paper so neat and smooth that you can actually use it afterwards? When we try this, the paper always ends up drying too wavy to use. Do you iron it? But that would melt the wax, right?

That’s a beautiful project for Hanukkah. I’m going to check out your felt topper project next. Have a super day! Christine

Great question! I actually used some quite heavy non absorbent white glossy paper, something I had sitting around for years. Dont know what its called but its the type of paper whose use is for pen and ink drawings, or was used once upon a time (like 25 years ago or so…) for making mechanicals or paste-up graphics pre-computer….hope that helps….
And the technique also worked quite well on the white corrugated cardboard box….so work on light colored cardboard recycled from the kitchen! all the best!

Do you think this would work on a canvas? I’ve got an idea for something I want to try, but I don’t want to waste a canvas if someone knows it won’t work!
