Rosh HaShana, The Jewish New Year is coming up on Monday night, so now is the time for small projects to honor the holiday or even to gift to friends and loved ones. This tiny Shanah Tovah cross stitch canvas is just the thing, and even if you don’t have the standard cross stitch items on hand, think about using this pattern in another way, like with t-shirt yarn on a piece of pegboard, yarn on a piece of window screen, or even embroidery thread on a styrofoam tray or cereal box. The last two in that list are of course crafts I’ve done in the past, and cross stitch can be done on anything that has a grid, or you can draw your own grid with dots. At the least, get out the graph paper and color in the little squares according to this pattern and make a fun Rosh HaShana card or sign? The wonderful thing about cross stitch is that it can truly translate into so many things, ah yes, not to mention perler beads, or pony beads, or seed beads!
With just a few more days left until the New Year, you may not have time to delve into crafts for the holiday, but do think about including more creativity in your life next year, starting with crafts for the succah, coming up in just two weeks! Okay, never mind that, for now make something, even something very small to usher in the new year!
You’ll Need:
- creme colored aida cloth 12, or loose weave embroidery fabric (shown here)
- embroidery floss, divided into two 3 strands pieces
- embroidery hoop, mine is 12cm diameter
the photo below which serves as your pattern
How To:
Count the number of spaces from top to bottom and left to right and start design accordingly. Look up a cross stitch tutorial if this is new to you, otherwise get to it! For the neatest result you will want your stitches to be created with the top portion of the stitch going in the same direction as all the others, but I have not been doing this, so that is really for perfectionists or when making large stitches, but something to keep in mind! Enjoy!
Don’t these two cross stitch hoops look great together? Check out my cross stitch apple and bees pattern, just be warned cross stitch is addictive!
