Deliver Love With This Adorable First Birthday Ornament

Sometimes the cutest add-on to your first birthday decorations might be something on the subtle side, but so very sweet that is stands on its own! This toy helicopter birthday ornament was hung from my dining room chandelier, a spot usually filled with lots of decorations, and yet when I put the usual number there it was just too much! In flew this helicopter delivering some love and it was just perfect. And those who noticed couldn’t help but smile. So yes, wooden toys can make great decorations, especially ones, like this, that are a surprise. And of course, since a consistent look is important when it comes to party decor, this little helicopter ornament looks great together with my adorable first birthday smash cake, as well as my cardboard balloons photo backdrop birthday wall decor.

And honestly I just love the cardboard heart cut-out with a border of white paint pen dots………who would have thought? Okay, well I did think as far as saving these hearts, but with no actual plan for them, and in a pinch they were so perfect! Of course I have lots more, which I am officially saving, now that I know how great they are, especially for birthday decor.

And no, I did not hand cut that heart, it came from an upcycled box from the duty-free store in Ben Gurion airport! Wonder if even one person out there thought to cut the hearts out of the box and save them? Should I contact the store and show them how I’ve used their box, which proudly states that it is 70% recycled paper? Hmmmm, maybe?

So friends, always keep your eyes open for fun cutouts to be used for crafting, before tossing the box, hopefully into the recycling bin!

More Ideas For Using Wooden Toys As Birthday Decor

Wooden toys make fun birthday decor that can be pulled out in a pinch (if they are dedicated just for that) or added to the toy collection after the party. I just started thinking about all the ways I could use wooden toys for the next baby birthday party and here are some of my ideas:

• wooden trains, especially those NOT painted could make great decor, running down the table, around the cake stand, or even on the cake! You might even be able to use the track to make the birthday number, and display that on the wall? I don’t know if you need both track and trains on the table, it may or may not be too much, so try it and see.

• I use my collection of Swedish Dala horses as birthday table decor all the time, and I especially love the plain wooden one I picked up at the factory, or the plain white one, as they look great with the addition of a saddle blanket, or crown, preferable with the birthday number on it!

clothespin dolls perched on cardboard animal cutouts is something I’ve wanted to do for ages. Give the plain wooden clothespins capes and crowns, and then make some cardboard mountains, horses, you name it!

peg dolls that stand on their own woud look amazing with little crowns and capes, or birthday hats

a wooden flatbed truck or tractor pulling a trailer is a great centerpiece, and do fill the truck up with tiny party favors wrapped in a color to match the table

wooden beads can be great as napkin rings, and maybe add a tassel

classic wooden blocks can make great side table decor, just add some flags or banners, and maybe tape with masking tape on the back so they don’t topple!

classic wooden toys like lincoln logs could be great if they are in perfect condition, and any vintage toy really, assuming it is in near perfect condition (or aged in a charming way) might be great as a centerpiece, or add-on decor where it is not expected.
