How To Make 100% Wool Felt Stars For Holiday Crafting

Friends, there is just something about using quality crafting materials that truly makes a difference. I’m sharing with you how to make 100% wool felt stars for holiday crafting because if I hadn’t tried it myself I never would have known! These wonderful felt stars can be used for actual felting crafts, like my felted chanukah menorah wall hanging craft, or use as is for garlands, scattered on a table or even as napkin ring charms or gift toppers. Wool felt can be pricey, but this project requires just one or two pieces, so give it a try!

You’ll Need:

• 100% wool felt, sold in craft stores

• a rotary cutter and/or really sharp scissors

• freezer paper, tracing paper or pattern paper or baking paper

How To:

Design your project stars on paper first. Spend some time drawing shapes until you come up with one perfect example of each size you’d like to make. Make a template using cereal box cardboard so that you can use that to create multiple matching shapes.

(Freezer paper is used to create iron-on patterns and can work here, but in any case, if you live in the USA, freezer paper is a great craft project item. Sorry don’t think it is available elsewhere, but look into it if you must, for example if you want to do freezer paper stenciling, which is fantastic.)

Draw the designs or trace around your template on the non-shiny side of your freezer paper using a black permanent marker. Press the freezer paper onto the felt using a dry iron. The freezer paper may or may not stick well, so if you’re cutting out small designs, secure the freezer paper to the felt with a pin. You can also draw designs on white paper/tracing paper/baking paper and pin them to the felt as patterns.

Cut out your stars, try with scissors and a rotary cutter to see what works for you. Generally because of the thickness of the felt a rotary cutter is the best, but with the little stars that might be difficult.
