How To Make Elegant Toile Origami Dreidels For Chanukah

Guess what friends, origami dreidels can now be elegant, or vintage or cottage core, when you choose to fold them from the scrapbook paper that matches your decor, or you wish matched your decor! When I realized the secret to how to make elegant toile origami dreidels for Chanukah I was ecstatic, as bright colors no long work with the design aesthetic I’m building, generally that is! That said, this year I have shared colorful layered origami dreidels together with a few other origami dreidel ideas, I’m just not hanging them in my house!

This toile scrapbook paper (that happens to not be as thick as scrapbook paper should be) was perfect for folding origami. I complained about the paper thickness and the online seller did a re-shipment rather than return the money, which I took as a sign that I should use the paper for crafting and thus these toile dreidels were born, and I still have plenty of paper to use as dollhouse wallpaper if I so desire.

And yes, toile is back once again, and I know that since I find myself being attracted to it, along with embroidery and vintage earthy/country style things! (Hello, cross stitch obsession!) And truly, picking up some paper in a pattern that you wish you could use in your home is a great way to satisfy that need for a new color/pattern/style…….cover some boxes in the paper, or make decorations!

You’ll Need:

• toile scrapbook paper, mine is 12″ x 12″

• how to fold an origami dreidel tutorial

• gold paper, or gold paint

• hebrew letter stencils (optional)

How To:

Fold dreidels in a range of sizes and add gold hebrew letters if desired. I think these would look great with velvet ribbon bows, and will try that soon!

I’ve also made gold leaf toile origami dreidels, so maybe pick up some gold leaf flakes (to use with diluted white glue or decoupage medium) if you are at the craft store, so much fun!
