How To Crochet A Very Simple Cowl Scarf For A Doll

How To Crochet A Very Simple Cowl Scarf For A Doll is something every crafter should know! After I finished crocheting an oversized ribbed collar sweater for a sweet plaid bear, I still felt like he needed something else, so I started to crochet him an undershirt. The straps were problematic as his arms are basically sewn to his neck, so I decided not to fret over it, and ditched the undershirt idea. I unraveled the one strap I’d crocheted and realized that the remaining tube could be a great cowl scarf, and tada, now this bear looks super cozy and warm, right? This means that just about any doll or stuffed animal could benefit from a crocheted cowl scarf, and it is so simple, why not bring joy to a little one, or even yourself, as daily cuteness is a thing! Okay, let do it! Ah yes, and this is THE perfect project for someone learning to crochet!

You’ll Need:

a crochet hook, mine is a steel sized 0, roughly 2.35mm, you can use whatever works for you

• yarn that you have on hand, use up tiny bits and even make stripes with it

Crocheted Doll Cowl Scarf Pattern

Round 1: Crochet a chain that is slightly larger than the circumference of the doll or stuffed animal’s head. Join to first chain with a slip stitch to make a ring.

Round 2: Chain 2, and DC around, joining to first DC with a slip stitch.

Round 3 plus: Continue as in round 2 until desired height is achieved. I worked 5 rounds. My last two rounds look a little strange as I made some decreases as I was trying to originally make an undershirt. Decreases will cause the cowl to fold nicely, so if that is something you desire, make about 3 or 4 decreases in the fourth row, though decreases made with dc stitches don’t look so great, so keep that in mind.

For other options, alternate rows of sc and dc, or do entire cowl in sc for smaller versions. This is a perfect project for kids just learning to crochet!

Happy crocheting!
