How to grow a lipstick houseplant that blooms yearly? Well, friends while not a total expert, my plant has now re-bloomed at exactly the same time as last year, namely to bring its lovely red flowers for a stunning Chanukah display, and then keep on blooming for at least another month. Today there are still blooms, but many have fallen and the we are winding down until next year so it seems. And just as soon as all the blooms have fallen off, I’ll be giving this plant a haircut and hopefully using the cuttings to propogate new plants. Hmmm, where is that rooting hormone that I put somewhere? I would love some more lipstick plants as the blooms are just so very lovely! Okay, keep on reading to hear how my plant has stayed happy this past. year.

Here is how I’ve cared for my lipstick plant:
- Once the weather warms up in the spring, I hang the plant outdoors in a shady spot
- I made sure to water the plant as needed when outdoors, which can be every few days in warmer weather
- I mist the plant every day, when outdoors and when indoors
- I write about it on my blog to give it some fame
- I’ve started collecting the blooms that fall off and pressing them!
- I have not fertilized, but really need to jump on that wagon as houseplants do benefit greatly from fertilizing, especially a few years after getting them.

Truly, who can resist the process of seeing these flower mature, with a red center that pops out like lipstick!

If you ask me, I’d say go for the red lipstick!
