How To Draw Simple Fruit Shapes And Make A Garland!

Tiny-fruit-garland-simpleWith the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shevat coming up in a whole month, now is a time to explore all crafts pertaining to fruit, and make festive decorations! With winter vacation for many, what better time than to whip up an adorable and simple fruity garland that you can use year round? The key is to keep the fruit quite tiny, so that no matter what the skill level the results will be great. As long as the shape is recognizable, the rest really doesn’t matter. I used markers and watercolor paper and then simply taped a piece of cotton yarn to the back, and voila, cute as can be! And truly, fruit is a great theme for so many occasions as it is fun, colorful and so much better for you than anything else sweet! While you are at it, make some fruity cupcake and cake toppers, gift tags, place cards, you name it!

You’ll Need:

  • a pencil
  • a fine line black pen
  • markers
  • watercolor paper or white card stock
  • a piece of colorful string or yarn
  • tape

How To:

  1. Get reference photos/illustrations of fruit you’d like to draw, or simply use my photo here of the finished product.
  2. I’d advise making a grid of squares that are roughly the size of the tiny fruit, and then instructing kids to fill the square where possible. That way all the fruit will be roughly the same size, which is desirable if you are going for this look.
  3. Draw fruit with a pencil and then add color with markers, finishing with a black outline where necessary.
  4. Tape or hot glue a string to the back and voila, adorble fruity garland is made!
