Simple Drawing For Kids: How To Draw A Fish

The sign for the Jewish month of Adar, coming up next Monday night, is the fish, so let’s get fishy! And aren’t these fish just the cutest? Courtesy of one of my 3rd grade students who really got the hang of the fish drawing lesson I tried to teach, and yesterday after his fish drawing was displayed on my fridge for at least two weeks, he showed us exactly how he drew these fish! I taught the boys to draw an ellipse and then add on the tail, mouth and fins, but he took it a step further, and I’m now sharing his instructions with you! Introducing simple drawing for kids: how to draw fish, something everyone even adults can have fun drawing!

While these fish are on the small side and great for first try, I’d recommend encouraging kids to draw much bigger so that you can then cut them out and use them to make Purim decorations, or a fun sea life or aquarium collage. These fish have actually already been cut out and are adorning a cardboard crown for Purim, which might just be used as the top of a mobile filled with yes, fish!

Okay, ready to get drawing? Follow the instructions below, and enjoy. The first step is like drawing a smile, and then another smile upside down, or kids can even turn the paper if necessary. The two smiles are then connected with tail fins and an open mouth, add the eye, and voila!

Have fun learning to draw fish, and then look at some photos to see how they can be decorated with stripes, scales, and more!
