How To Make A Simple Cardboard Frame For Kid’s Art

Today is Purim in Jerusalem, so sharing Purim themed art is still possibly relevant for someone, especially this How To Make A Simple Cardboard Frame For Kid’s Art to decorate the front door? This clown drawing for Purim was made by one of my 3rd grade students, who is such a darling boy I just had to give his art the place of honor on my front door! Not to worry, no favoritism here, he made this at home on a sick day, not in our crafting class. That said, it was at my request, since he happens to excel at drawing and I want to encourage him! Okay, whether kid’s drawing are truly great, or just really cute, which should also be applauded, why not use that art to make fun party decor? This simple idea certainly beats the standard taping up of signs and art on the front door, and takes truly just a few minutes. Let’s do it!

Supplies For Simple Cardboard Frame:

• cereal box or other lightweight cardboard

• metallic gold cardstock, or any colored paper or cardboard

• a wide (ish) sating ribbon, or any ribbon

• a glue stick and tape, hot glue gun for adults

Instructions For Simple Cardboard Frame:

  1. Using a glue stick, coat the backside of the kid’s art with glue.
  2. Adhere art to cereal box cardboard on non-printed side, making sure to leave room for a border around the art, namely for a A4 or letter sized paper, adhere to cereal box in the middle.
  3. Cut out art, leaving a cardboard border around the art.
  4. For corners, cut small strips to glue at corners as shown in photo. Alternately, for a very special work of art, consider making a gold frame that is attached under the cereal box border.
  5. Using hot glue or strong tape, adhere the ribbon to the back of the art, with the ends spread out, such that when hung the ribbon is part of the look!
  6. If you want to make a whole gallery, consider gluing a short ribbon to the back for hanging in a way that would not be seen and so multiple pieces of art could be hung together, OR, glue artwork in a stack on one long ribbon, which can accomodate various sizes.
  7. Keep this idea handy and encourage your kids to make more art!
