How To Make A Gold Leaf Origami Pyramid

I just can’t stop making origami pyramids, because they are so simple to make and with fantastic results…….and since I just might make a pyramid tablescape for the Passover seder coming up just shy of 2 weeks, now is the time to figure it all out, meaning what will the seder table look like this year, and make a few purchases where necessary. Nothing too major, but I am dreaming of sewing some fabric napkins (not so likely to happen, but you never know!) and I do have a credit at the fabric store, so knowing my color scheme certainly would be helpful. Or maybe I already have the fabric in my stash? Okay, enough about napkins, lets make some gold leaf origami pyramids, in my case using paper from a paper gift bag!

Supplies For Gold Leaf Origami Pyramid:

• large brown paper bag or brown kraft paper, but not light weight

• gold leaf flakes

• white glue and paint brush

• tutorial for how to fold an origami pyramid

How To Make A Gold Leaf Origami Pyramid: Instructions

  1. Fold your origami pyramids
  2. Adhere flaps with hot glue or high tack glue
  3. Working in small sections apply glue and then gently lay gold leaf flakes into glue, trying not to touch it too much. You can lightly pat the flakes, but best to just let them be. Try not to apply too much gold leaf and leave some areas blank for the nicest effect.
  4. Set aside to dry, and once dry lightly buff to remove tiny pieces not affixed with glue.
  5. That is it, enjoy!

Note: The gold leaf process takes some patience, so I wouldn’t plan to do many in gold leaf, just a few to add into the mix, together with blue toile or any patterned paper, and maybe some gold paper as well. Also, in my experience even boys aged 11 had a challenge with the gold leaf, so may not for the kids.
